In the beginning of Formula 1, there were no sponsors attached to teams. Each team raced with their nation colors, until 1968 when Lotus debuted their first sponsorship.

With the new 2022 season in full gear, Red-Bull signing a record-breaking cryptocurrency deal has brought concerns. Here we will dive into which sponsorship's have been banned.

Tabacco

One of the most iconic sponsors for F1 and globally are tobacco brands.

After rising health risks, the European Union decided to ban tobacco advertising by 2005. Until 2003, the ban turned into a recommendation, giving brands the choice to leave. Since then, there has never been a total ban, only a suggestion to using precaution when advertising.

During the rise of smoke-free products. Marlboro still debuted their brand on Ferrari’s livery every so often in races where they were not banned.

Alcohol

The famous podium celebration where the drivers will shower themselves in champagne. It is interesting to know that not every race has champagen, but rose water. Unlike tobacco, Alcohol is only banned in three races: Abu Dhabi, Russia, and Bahrain.

The Dutch beer Heineken are one of the biggest sponsor’s for F1, with their campaign “ When you Drive, Never Drink.”

Certain Alcohol logos have to be covered up when racing in Abu Dhabi, Russia and Bahrain.

Cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency has been one of the most fast growing sonspers. In 2019, Red-Bull became the first to team up with the crypto platform. Since them, about twelve crypto sponsrs have joined in the last three years. Red-Bill has recently announced their deal with Bybit, which has been reported to be the biggest crypto deal in the motorposrqts .

F1 got some action last year, rumored to have a $100 million, five year deal with Crypto to introduce a new overtake award.
